Description

In this lesson, students learn and practice reading skill through guided discovery based on a reading text about Exclusive clubs. The lesson starts with group discussion about club and society. This followed by pre teaching vocabulary, pre reading, while reading including reading for gist and reading for specific information. Finally there is some freer practice via final role-play speaking activıty.

Procedure

Lead - in (10-12 minutes) • Introduce the theme of lesson; engage students

- Distribute handouts among group of students and they are assigned to ask each other in group some questions: what is the meaning of club?, what is difference between club and society?, are you member of any clubs or societies?, think of three different clubs and societies and what rules do they have? - Eliciting from students by providing an opportunity to share each other's idea - Feedback: ask a students tell to class what is his/her idea.

Pre - reading vocabulary (5-10 minutes) • To introduce vocabulary students will encounter in reading assignment

- In this stage, i'm going to attach some pictures on whiteboard and let the learners to elicit and produce the language. students in pairs will be given 2 to 3 minutes to be productive in terms of language and i will stop them in a legitimate time. - CCQ - some questions will be asked to run CCQ - Writing new vocabulary on board e.g. murder case, motto, battle, new recruit, suspect - Ask students about Stress and Form - Drill 3 times - Feedback: ask students to repeat , some corrections if its needed

While reading - Reading for gist (5-8 minutes) • Involve and give Ss opportunity to check their understanding of the concept

- Distribute the HO, students are assigned to read the first few lines of text ( reading text, page 108) in 2 minutes and answer the questions that were already given( Ex.2). they should do it individually and monitor the activity. - Get students to do peer checking - Elicit and model the sentences by giving the opportunity to students to talk about what they understood in this stage. - Feedback: ask a student to share with class to check the class understanding

While reading - Reading for specific details (8-10 minutes) • To provide students more practices for further reinforcement

- Students will read the text entirely and carefully in 3 to 4 minutes - HO, they will be assigned a controlled practice to evaluate student's comprehension from the text - Ask students to do it individually - Monitoring - Then get them to do peer checking

Post reading - freer practice for speaking (3-5 minutes) • To give students an opportunity to discuss through a speaking activity

Write sample of questions on whiteboard Ex.5b to ask and answer questions in pair. Which one of societies would you like to join? Why? are any of societies controversial? Do you know of any societies with strange rules? what are day? - Monitor and do delayed error correction and conclude the class.
