Description

In this lesson, students will learn how to write an e-mail as a reply to another email they received asking about a friend. in the lead in, ss will be shown some pictures to describe them. in order to set the context. Then, we will move to a reading activity " reading for gist" to provide ss with general understanding of the text . there will be useful language to be used in the writing process. After that, their will a writing task that will give the learners a chance to practice their writing skills. Finally, there will be a free practice in which they will talk to each other and share their ideas about their writing.

Main Aims

  • To provide process writing practice of a an email in the context of describing a friend

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about an email in the context of describing a friend

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows SS some pictures and asks them to describe the people. T elicits as much vocabulary as he can. T asks SS to describe their friends in pairs. T elicits good and bad qualities they find in their friends

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T hands out the task T makes sure SS understand who the two emails from and how we can know T asks SS to read the two emails and answer the questions in 1A in three minutes T asks SS to check in pairs T provides the AK Now T asks SS to correct the five spelling mistakes in 1B individually T asks SS to check in pairs or groups and aks them to run to the board to write them correctly. T asks SS to reread Claudia's email again in two minutes and answer 1C ..........while the paper face down. if there is more time, T can ask more questions like How old is she? What does she do? What do you know about her family? T

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T asks SS to look at the highlighted expressions in Claudia's email and put them in the right place in the chart while SS on task, T copy the exercise on the board and write the expressions in the right place T draws some people with different heighs to show the meaning T go through the USEFUL LANGUAGE box and the other expressions on the board.

Productive Task(s) (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T asks SS to imagine that they are the ones who have received Stephanie's email and they have to write about one of their friends. T goes through the plan and makes sure they know what to do T hands out a paper for the plan of the email When SS finish, they check in pairs

Feedback and Error Correction (5-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

While monitoring T collects some of the common mistakes SS do. T asks SS to check in pairs. T provides SS with correction.
