Description

This lesson will focus on Vocabulary-Teaching. T will start with a short video to get Ss` attention. Next, T will follow up with related context questions. After that, Ss will learn about the meanings of some sports terms, their form, and pronunciation through visual aids. Then, Ss will complete the controlled practice. Finally, Ss will end up the lesson with freer practice.

Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson, learners will have a better understanding of sports vocabulary and will have had practice using that language and be better able to talk about sports terms.

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will have developed their speaking skills in the context of sports.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To generate interest in the context of sports

T wears his/her favorite football team`s uniform to attract Ss` attention in the lesson T plays a short video. T elicits the general context from students.

Speaking Task (5-7 minutes) • To practice speaking for gist and to contextualise and introduce the target language

=T gives Ss a handout and asks them to answer the following questions with their partner. =T gives Ss two minutes to prepare their answers. =The following questions: • Are you good at sport? • Do you enjoy playing or watching sport? Why? • Do you know anyone who makes a living out of sport? • Which sports are most popular in your culture? -T monitors

Clarifying target language (8-10 minutes) • To clarify meaning so learners understand it, to clarify the pronounciation so learners know hot to say it, to clarify form so that learners know how to construct it

T starts showing Ss pictures and tries to elicit the target language. T clarifies the meaning of the word by asking right CCQs T repeats the pronunciation of the word correctly with Ss Then T writes the word`s form on the board.

Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with conrolled practice focused on using the language accurately

T gives a handout to Ss and asks them to choose the best answer to complete each sentence. (Answer key : !- captain 2-coach 3- referee 4-umpire 5- arenas 6- spectator) T walks around and monitors. Ss check answers together after everybody finishes. (if time) T plays a vocabulary game. Ss are divided into 2 groups. Each student comes to the board and sits on a chair. T writes one of the target vocabularies on the board and Ss try to explain it in a minute without using the target word. If a student gets the right answer, then his/her team gets 1 point.

Freer Practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide freer practice and use the language productively

T prints out the target vocabulary and put them in a box. Each learner is given a chance to pick a word from which he / she will have to construct a short and grammatical sentence. T monitors and gets feedback from Ss
