In this lesson , students will learn grammer structures "used to " , "be used to " and " get used to " . they will focus on the difference between them and when to use them .

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of Used to , be used to and get used to in the context of knowing people .

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of knowing people .

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

tell the students some personal situations in the context of knowing people .ask them if they knew people in the past and now no . ask the students if it is easy for them to deal with a new kind of people and if they are accustomed to know them .also ask them if it is becoming normal now .

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a video

Ask the students to focus on a video , which is a lyrical video of the song " somebody that i used to know " after the video i will ask the students if they noticed the use of " used to " or not . write down three different questions on the board and ask them about the difference between them .

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

use the board to tell them the difference between the three cases and tell them that each one used in a specific occassion . draw three time lines to help them know the difference more easily . ask the students some CCQs like : 1-Am I talking about the past or the present ? 2- do i know these people now or not ? 3- do i find it easy to do with these people or not ? 4- so am i accustomed to know them ? 5-is knowing these people new and strange for me ? 6- is it becoming more familiar and easier ? why {because i have to deal with them every day}

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Give the students handout 1 , which consistes of 7 multiple choice questions . ask the students to answer the questions indidually . move around the class and try to find the errors and correct them on the spot .ask the students to check answers in pairs .

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

ask the students to write done three sentences the first with used to , the second with be used to , and the third with get used to . i want them to work in pairs . ask the students to change their places and speak freely together .
