In this lesson students will learn about 7 natural disasters. The lesson starts with a quick story about a holiday that went wrong then Ss will discuss in pairs and think of 3 things that could go wrong during a holiday. Ss will learn about the 7 natural disasters and their exact meaning. Then they will listen and answer the questions after they discuss them in pairs.

Main Aims

  • My main aim is to get students to talk more and to teach them the meaning of the words that might be new to them.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To manage the time and go through all of my procedure stages smoothly.


Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher tells Ss a quick story about things that ciuld go wrong in a holiday.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Ss think of 3 things that could go wrong during a holiday. Ss discuss in pairs what they thought about. T monitors.

Highlighting (5-8 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ss play a match the word to its definition game in two groups. Ss give their answers and check if they're correct. Teacher corrects the wrong answers if there are any.

Clarification (2-4 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Teacher explains the previous words using pictures to help the students understand more. Teacher explains how the words are pronounced.

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Teacher explains few words that students may find hard in the next practice. Teacher gives students a picture and Ss work in pairs to discuss what they think it's about.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ss listen then think about what they think happened to the family. Ss mark the family's route on the map and talk about what natural disaster happened in each place.Ss discuss in pairs.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss listen one more time and answer the questions individually. Then Ss talk in pairs about their answers.
