Main Aims

  • To provide reading practices using a text about girl's night out through gist, skimming and scanning.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Speaking: To provide fluency speaking practice in a pair work in the context of girls night out

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher will ask the students two questions: 1- What do you usually do on weekends? 2- Do you like shopping? -First of all, students will discuss their answers in pairs -Teacher will elicit ideas

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Teacher will demonstrate pictures ( power point presentation) Glossary: Curry, sweater, macho country, literature, traditional -Teacher will elicit the words from the pictures demonstrated -Teacher will drill the words several times to enhance students fluency -Teacher will write the words on the board

While-Reading #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist reading tasks

Teacher will show the students 3 pictures ( They should guess the countries) -After guessing, students will have 3 mins to read and gist to check if their prediction is correct. -Students will discuss their answers in pairs -Teacher's feedback and Answer keys

While-Reading #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging task ( reading for specific information)

In this task, students will have to skim and scan the passage in order to search for a specific information. ( A demo before answering) -Students will solve Que 2C -Students will discuss their answers in pairs -Teacher's feedback and Answer keys

While-reading #3 • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

Students will have to read the passage one more time, in order to point out the details needed for the question. ( A demo needed before answering) -Students will solve Que 2d -Students will discuss answers in pairs -Teachers feedback and Answer keys

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students will compare their answers in the previous question in pairs - teacher will elicit answers - error-correction
