Description

In this lesson students learn about useful phrases and idioms with time.

Main Aims

  • To introduce, review and give controlled oral practice in using vocabulary from idioms and expressions with time through a recording and 3 short texts.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To give Ss practice in the integrated skills of speaking, writing, in particular to give Ss the opportunity to practise idioms/expressions with time.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To arouse interest and introduce the topic.

Draw a circle on WB and write time- give one example - free time, on time. Give them 2 mins.to think and discuss and get them to write anything they know with time on WB.

Focus on TL1 (5-5 minutes) • To introduce Ss to target vocabulary.

Hand out text for listening (powerpoint)and ask Ss to underline words with time. Give them sufficient time for a skim reading and mark these words. Ss guess their meaning in pairs or groups.

Focus on TL2 (6-8 minutes) • To focus on MFP of the target language.

With the help of powerpoint slide, focus on MFP of the vocabulary. 1.we're making good time- show 1.&2nd picture and compare two pics. is it possible making good time in 1st picture? or second? Use CCqs and turn to Ss for answers. continue with other pics.

Pre-listening (5-5 minutes) • Pre-listening to prepare Ss for the topic of the listening and make predictions about what they will hear.

ask Ss to refer to texts & pictures paper handed out and ask Ss to read the conversations and match them with the pictures. Peer check. WC FB.

while listening 1 (5-7 minutes) • to listen for a specific information

Explain task: match the expressions with the underlined phrases in conversations. Peer check. Listen again for WC FB Answer key on the wall.

Gap fill activity (3-5 minutes) • to practise time expressions in a gap fillling activity.

Insert the missing letters activity. Peer check. Answer key on the wall or 1 for each group.

discuss with a partner. (5-5 minutes) • Ss practise time idioms and expressions they learn.

Hand out 3 question- exercise which one describes you best?

writing- if time (5-5 minutes)

Ss to work with a partner and choose 3 expressions from exercise 2. Tell them to write a short conversation including them.
