Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of first conditional in the context of Just imagine

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice listening with the TL.

Procedure

Leadn-in (3-5 minutes) • To expose the students to the context and the TL first conditional.

Students will see a picture of three people stuck on the board, a couple of English Jack and Annie and their best friend David from Spain. the situation of the English couple is bad due to bad weather in England so they are in a bad mood and many thoughts come to their mind one of these is to move to Spain. So the students have to think about what are the thought and if they cannot figure the TL, I will give them CCQs like are they satisfied living in England? No

Presentation (8-10 minutes) • To present the first conditional sentence.

After students exposed to the TL. I will write the sentence "If the weather is bad, we will move to Spain. then will elicit the meaning from some CCQs to convey the meaning like: - Will they move to Spain? Maybe - Is it definitely a bad weather? No - Is it possible that they will move to Spain? Yes then: after conveying the meaning I will explain the form of the first conditional sentence. If clause main clause then I will drill for pronunciation.

Practice (3-5 minutes) • Listen to answer Gap-Fill questions to practice first conditional.

I will give students handouts with exercises to fill in the gap with phrases from the box. students have to listen to the conversation and fill in the gaps about Jack, Annie and David. then students have to check their answer with their partners. and elicit some question to make sure they answer the questions correctly.

Practice #1 (5-7 minutes) • Listen to answer Gap-Fill questions to practice first conditional.

Students have to listen to the conversation to put the verbs in the correct form whether it is in the if clause or in the main clause. in this practice students will know the form of the verbs. after that students will check their answers with their partners.

Practice #2 (6-8 minutes) • To practice first conditional.

Students have to fill in the gaps in the handouts with if, as soon as or before into each box. and to put the verbs in the correct form. it is also about Jack, Annie and David.

Production (8-10 minutes) • To product and speak in if conditional sentences.

Students will have handouts and they have to work with a partner to ask and answer questions using the prompts. like: How/Sue feel if? late for the interview? I will listen to them and I will make note if they make errors, to correct them at the end of the practice.
