In this lesson the students learn about phrasal verbs,their meaning, the transitive and intransitive phrasal verbs,the separable and non separable phrasal verbs, and the position in the sentence of the object through different practices and exercises.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of phrasal verbs,their form,their classification,and the order of their object in the context of food

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of phrasal verbs and their object's order in the sentence in the context of food

Warmer/Lead-in (1-3 minutes) • To set lesson context, engage students and generate interest.

I'm going to mime a short story about baking a disaster cake. Pay Ss attention to catch the phrasal verbs in my context. Write their FBK on the board for later to be used.

Pre- teaching vocabulary (4-9 minutes) • To provide further understanding of the following grammar and make it easier to the students.

Give the students a list of pictures concerning the meaning of the previous picked phrasal verbs. ask students to write the phrasal verb under each picture. Ask students to work individually then in pairs. Ask them ICQs. Give students another sheet of vocab which are not included in the context to match it with pictures . Ask students to work individually then in pairs. Ask them ICQs.

Exposure and highlighting. (10-15 minutes) • To provide further understanding of the target language and draw Ss attention to the TL.

Provide the Ss students with sheet and ask them to tick the complete sentence and the one they feel it's missing sth then complete it. Ask them to work individually and then in pairs. Ask them ICQs. Write an example of their FBK to ask them and pave the way to this step of grammar. Ask them why they made it like that and how to conclude the grammar. check answer with WC. Divide the board into 2 divisions and ask them where to write transitive and where to write intransitive?

Clarification (16-25 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Ask Ss to form a sentence using (look up- word- dictionary). Ask them to give me the same sentence in different way. Ask them to replace" word" with" It" and form another two sentences. Put tick or cross according the correct rule. Ask them who forms the rule? verb + noun object+ particle. verb+ particle+ noun object. verb+ object pronoun+ particle. Ask students to form two different sentences using (get over - the problem). Ask them to replace" the problem" with "It'. Draw their attention that there are some phrasal verbs which are non separable. Draw their attention that the word formed of two particles is non separable.

Controlled Practice (25-27 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Chest a handout and ask Ss to put sentences in order. Ask them ICQs. Chek with WC.

Free Practice (27-30 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Chest a handout one for each group to write down sth using the phrasal verb. Leader of each group give us FBK.
