Main Aims

  • To provide the listening and speaking practice to the Ss
  • To provide specific information and practice listening using a text about Things I hate to live without in the context of Valuable objects

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency in speaking practice through a dialgue in the context of valuable possessions
  • To provide clarification and review of language though the usage of phrases.

Procedure

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will act as if I forgot my pencil case at home. With the help of one of my colleagues/one of the Ss I will ask her/him to look for it and say some sentences showing that I hate to live without it and as a teacher this is something hateful for me because of it's sentimental value.

While-Listening (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information through the listening tasks

Ss will listen to T8.6 and they will hear six people talking about things that they hate tot live without. After finishing the CD I will hand the handouts and I will show them the head of each column and what they are going to write. Ss will work individually.

While speaking (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed speaking tasks.

After filing the table, Ss will exchange the handouts and check each other's list. I will demonstrate for them how I am going to describe one of my objects using the useful language a,b and c so he/she can guess what is it. Through using the list of the questions in Ex. 2 Ss will describe their objects using the useful language a,b and c. a. Introducing objects: I can't live without my....... One thing I'd hate to be without .... b Describing objects I bought it when I ... It was given to me by my ..... I've had it for .... It's made of .... It's quite (small) c Saying why it's important It's really important to me because ... I need it for ... It's got great sentimental value. It reminds of .... I would be really lost without it.

While speaking • Monitoring the Ss performance

While the Ss are speaking to each other, I will take some notes and write them down to be used at the end of the lesson for feedback and correction.

Post-Reading/Speaking (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I will write on board some of the wrong questions, phrases or sentence structure and I will ask the Ss to find the mistakes and correct them as a feedback stage.
