Materials

Abc worksheet based on audio scripy

Main Aims

  • To provide the students practice in listening in the context of a conversation

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for agreement in the context of likes and dislikes

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show a picture of two people in an office talking I will ask the questions 'where are they?' and 'what are they doing?' to put the dialogue in context. Then I will have the s's work in pairs and have them talk about what they think these people like and dislike about their jobs, followed by WC share.

PreListening (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

In this stage, I will give the students the first worksheet that has a list of things talked about in the dialogue. I will ask the students to compare it to the things they talked about in the lead in. Then I will ask them to write either 'L' or 'DL' guessing whether the people like these things or dislike these things about their jobs. S's will work in pairs. Followed by WC check and at this stage I will write the words on the board and CCQ the new vocabulary.

While Listening #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I will play the audio for the students and let them check their guesses from the previous stage. I will then have them check in pairs and then check as a WC.

While-Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

In this task the students will be given the audio script with options between two possible correct sentences, followed by GW check and then I'll hand out answer sheets.

Post Listening (10-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

In this stage I will write on the board about the phrases 'me too' and 'me neither' for agreement. I will have the s's write 4 sentences about their likes and dislikes. Then I will do a mingle task, they will have to find 2 s's who agree and 2 who disagree. If there is extra time I will use the matching activity students must find the differences in the pictures working in pairs.
