Students will read for detail an article about coffee and practice speaking for fluency.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about coffee in the context of an article about coffee from different areas of the world.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide speaking practice in a conversation in the context of an article about coffee.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students.

T will elicit from Ss using pictures of cups of coffee and tea which one is their favourite. T will ask what words are associated with coffee and tea and write them on the WB. T will have students write 5 sentences about themselves using the word coffee or tea. Ss will pair up and read their sentences to each other.

Pre-reading vocabulary (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with key vocabulary that will be found in text

T will elicit from students "addict", "originally", "varieties" and "droppings" with match the definitions HO.

While-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

T will give Ss article about coffee with a set of questions. Ss will work in pairs and check their answers. T will elicit from students which picture goes with the paragraph. WCF

Post-Reading/Listening (5 minutes) • To provide students with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned.

T will give Ss a jigsaw puzzle activity. Ss will work in pairs to unscramble the sentences. T will elicit the unscrambled sentences for WCF.
