To provide detailed reading practice using a text about coffee in the context of an article about coffee from different areas of the world.
To provide speaking practice in a conversation in the context of an article about coffee.
Procedure (16-20 minutes)
T will elicit from Ss using pictures of cups of coffee and tea which one is their favourite. T will ask what words are associated with coffee and tea and write them on the WB. T will have students write 5 sentences about themselves using the word coffee or tea. Ss will pair up and read their sentences to each other.
T will elicit from students "addict", "originally", "varieties" and "droppings" with match the definitions HO.
T will give Ss article about coffee with a set of questions. Ss will work in pairs and check their answers. T will elicit from students which picture goes with the paragraph. WCF
T will give Ss a jigsaw puzzle activity. Ss will work in pairs to unscramble the sentences. T will elicit the unscrambled sentences for WCF.
