Description

In this lesson, students will learn about how to state an opinion, how to agree/disagree, and how to interrupt.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide review of language used for agreeing, disagreeing, asking and telling opinion and interruptions in the context of speaking

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide scan the text to put the phrases into the categories.
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a debate
  • To provide specific information in the context of speaking phrases

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-12 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students are asked to be groups of three. Each group needs to choose a leader. The leaders will be the only ones who talk. The leaders are asked to guess a word. If nobody knows at the end of the second tour, the leaders can change. The word that they will find is 'MOTIVATION'. The teacher asks them go to the menti.com and write 2 words comes to their mind when they see the motivation word. Ask them to comment on the mind map with their partner in 2 minutes.

Exposure (5-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

The teacher gives a handouts to the students. Students are expected to listen and fill in the blanks. First listening is to do the task. After they complete the task, they are expected to check with their partners and then, check with the teacher.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Students are given a handout which is divided into 4 categories. These are agree, disagree, telling/asking opinion and interruption. Students are expected to write the phrases in the previous task into the right categories in pairs. After, they should check with their partners. After checking, the teacher will ask them to come to the board and write them into the categories.

Productive Task(s) (15-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Students are going to take their categorizing paper with them and put tick when their partners use the phrases on it. They are going to work in pairs and talk about the statements and the images around the class.

Wrap-up and Feedback (8-10 minutes) • To summarize and measure their understanding of the phrases.

Students are asked to go to 'Kahoot' and join to the quiz. If there are answers that no one knows, the teacher will give feedback about them.
