Main Aims

  • To provide practice and clarification of root words, prefixes, and suffixes in the context of time management.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide scan reading practice using a short article about time management in the context of organizing the London Olympics.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will be asked generally about time management to engage them in a group conversation, setting their minds to introduce new grammar and vocabulary.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Students will be given their handouts and a limited time to scan through the short article, underlining any new vocabulary and phrases. Students will be monitored throughout this time, and guided if necessary.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

After the students have read the article and underlined any new vocabulary and phrases, they will be asked to summarize the article. Afterwards the grammar introduced in the text will be clarified and explained to them. Then, based on the knowledge acquired they will continue to do the practices in pairs and answer as a whole class afterwards.
