Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask students about their weekend using past tense regular and irregular verbs. wear/meet/work/go/listen/call/relax/chat/cook/read/play/watch/have/leave Do you live with your family/with friends/on your own? Have you ever rented an apartment?

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Exercise 8.1 Review vocabulary of rooms in the house. See page 161 If students don't have a clear version of page 161 - draw a house outline on the whiteboard. teacher to elicit responses.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Listening - Exercise 2 - Listen for gist - what 3 rooms do they go into? 2 min Listen x 2 Gap fill 2 min Correct answers SSS-T 2 minutes Listen to second part for gist - who's bedroom was it? Part 3 What does the barman tell them 2 min.

Grammar (11-13 minutes) • To explain use of there is / there are some / any

Practice dialogue in groups of 3 people 5-7 minutes Complete the chart in 3 on page 63 Some +ve any -ve (or +ve if doesn't matter which one, hardly any (negative connotation) any ? (can use some if answer is expected to be yes - do you want some tea?)

Post-Reading/Listening (6-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned
