Main Aims

  • To develop Ss skills of listening for gist and detail in the context of anecdotes about childhood

Subsidiary Aims

  • To enable Ss to understand vocabulary items related to childhood. To practise speaking for fluency

Procedure

Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To introduce some initial vocabulary and arouse interest in the topic

Put 7 explanations of words on the w/b. Ss in groups (with cards of different colours) try to match words and explanations on the w/b. Monitor and not interfere. Drilling from phonemic transcriptions and marking stress.

Pre listening (3-4 minutes) • To introduce the topic and connect the stages

Tell the Ss they are going to watch Ryan and Daniele talking about their childhood. Ask Ss to anticipate what kind of things they can talk about and how they might use the words from lead-in.

First listening (10-11 minutes) • To practice listening for specific information

Ss watch the video and are asked to answer the question of ex. 3 by ticking the boxes. Peer check first and then in open class

Second listening (10-11 minutes) • To achieve a better understanding of the programme

Ss first look for a minute the statements in ex. 4. Then watch again the video and work in pairs to find the answers. Correction: answer key on the wall

After listening (3-4 minutes) • To solve any understanding difficulties about the programme and motivate Ss for the next stage, brainstorming about questions regarding childhood.

Teacher asks Ss´ opinions about the programme. “What did you find interesting”, “What was funny for you?”. Ss have to think about possible questions to find out more about sb´s childhood. Talk in groups.

Post listening (3-4 minutes) • To solve any understanding difficulties about the programme and motivate Ss for the next stage, brainstorming about questions regarding childhood.

Teacher asks Ss´ opinions about the programme. “What did you find interesting”, “What was funny for you?”. Ss have to think about possible questions to find out more about sb´s childhood. Talk in groups.

Students talk in groups about their childhood with the support of the questions in ppt. If necessary, teacher prompts the Ss by giving one or two examples. Recycling of the initial vocabulary. Teacher monitoring. Few groups report back to the class on anything interesting from their discussions.
