Main Aims

  • To provide Ss with practice in reading for gist and specific information through 2 short readings about Children's definition of people and things.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and review of phrasal verbs about childhood, introduce grammar(relative clauses)in context of childhood and writing practice of relative clauses.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To arouse interest in the topic of childhood.

greetings- how's your week been so far? Today's topic is -show the Ss visual of kids. Ask- what is the word for the time before we were an adult?- elicit childhood. write on W/B- childhood Ask- is it a noun or an adjective?- elicit noun. childhood- show the stress and pronun. /tʃaɪldhʊd/

reading (7-10 minutes) • To provide Ss practice in reading for gist and specific information

Get individual students to read out the children's definitions of a mother to the class and get them to choose the one they liked best. Explain any unknown vocabulary care for= to love someone tucks you in=puts you to bed and tucks the sheets and blankets tightly under the mattress so you feel safe and secure. sit up= stay awake CCQ- does she go to sleep? yell at someone = to shout in anger CCQ are you angry when you yell at someone? tidy up, tidy away Which one did you like best ? share with your partner.

reading text 2 (5-7 minutes) • To provide Ss practice in reading for specific information

Explain the Ss - read the text about some children defining five things which are in the box. read and match them. Peer check first. w/c feedback- answer key on the wall.

Grammar- relative clause (7-8 minutes) • To explain relative clauses with excerpts from the text 2 childhood.

Write a diagram on the W/B explaining relative clauses that, which, who. Explain subject and object relative pronouns and which one we must use / which one to leave out.

Grammar task (5-7 minutes) • To check Ss' understanding of relative clause and relative pronoun use.

Explain handout- instructions. then give out the exercise sheets to Ss. peer check- first then answers on the W/B- nominate Ss for doing each one on W/B

writing task (5-8 minutes) • freer writing practice of describing things using relative clauses
