Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher - Welcome students and get names on the board. Have students write their name and introduce themselves. S-T 2 min Teacher tells story about the weekend: I was in Taksim. It was after midnight. I wanted to get a bus back home. I stay near Bogazici University. A Turkish woman and her mother were also at the bus stop. They asked me if there was a bus. Yes, I think so. We were there 30 minutes. There was no bus. The women looked for a taxi. There was no taxi. The Dolmus driver offered to drive us. We all were in the Dolmus back to Bogazaci. I asked how much was the fare. They said it was free. Happy story for me.

Exposure (9-11 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Listen for gist - Where did the girls want to go? Play exercise 7.1 (If audio is not loud enough Teacher will read) T-S 2 minutes Gist: Were they in London? Reading: Students will read the text on P54 themselves S 3 minutes Exercise 1a on Page 54 - Put students in pairs of 2. Have students work together 4-5 Minutes. S-S 5 minutes Correct as a Group: SSS 2 minutes

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Teacher: Can you tell me the verb in each sentence in Exercise 1. S-T 3 minutes What is similar about these verbs? Elicit that they All end in -ed 1 minute

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Have students complete Exercise 2 B. S-S 3 minutes Teacher Reviews +ve/-ve/? format S+base form+ed, S+did not base form, did+S+base form 5 minutes Present pronunciation Exercise 3 - d/t/id sounds Teacher - Choral first two rows SS-T Drill - S-T third lines

Controlled Practice (10-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Exercise 2d: Get everyone to stand up. Teacher demonstrates: S1 Did you use SatNav yesterday? S1 - Yes or No I did not use SatNav. Ask S2 second question SSS - 7 minutes Teacher: Who found someone that listened to the radio? What did you listen to? Who worked late? Until what time did you work? 3 minutes

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Complete Exercise 4 in pairs. Change student groupings. S-S 5 minutes. Teacher draws on a timeline.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Exercise 4C. Students can discuss in pairs past events S-S 5 minutes. Change partners S-S 5 minutes
