Description

In this lesson, the student will be asked to say the vocabulary that they already know about schools and school objects. They will gist read the text and answer true and false questions and read it for more details to answer comprehension questions. in the end, we will have a free practice of the differences between schools and universities in Turkey.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about Schools in the context of Studying in Korea
  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about Schools in the context of Studying in Korea

  • To provide clarification of vocabulary in the context of Studying in Korea

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-I will show the students pictures of schools and school objects. - I will ask them what they can find at school, and what do we do at school?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through (questions)

I will split the class into 4 groups and I will give cards with questions, I will take one card randomly and ask them if they have the question and pick someone to speak and answer the question.

Clarification (5-7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will choose some vocabulary from the text and clarify their meaning, form, and pronunciation. Important- Favorite - different- similar- library

reading for gist (3-5 minutes) • giving students an opportunity to prepare themselves for deeper understanding

I will tell them that they will have to answer True- False questions after their first reading.

scanning (4-5 minutes) • To see if they predicted everything correctly

I will tell the students to read again for 1 minute and see if they have relevant information on the board.

Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will give them 5 minutes to read the text for the last time and 5 minutes to answer the questions, and check the answers with other students for error correction.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will split the class into new groups and ask the students to tell the differences and the similarities between universities and schools in Turkey.
