Description

In this lesson, students will learn and practice second conditional clauses through a discovery based text and unreal life situations. The lesson starts with a lead in activity about a survey of things people would do in Britain taken from the Daily Mail magazine. Then, the students would be asked to complete a questionnaire about things they would do if they were in some situations. After that, the students will notice the target language through a listening recording of three people talking about imagined situation in the present and future using the second conditional and then complete an exercise ( gap fill ) . In the clarification stage , the teacher clarify the form, meaning, and pronunciation off the second conditional which will be followed by a controlled practice .Finally, the students will practice speaking reading some situations , taking notes, and work in groups to use the target language.

Main Aims

Procedure

Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In this stage of the lesson the

Pre-teach vocabulary (3-4 minutes) • To prepare students for the text where they will notice language in context

In this stage , teacher introduces the most needed words which might help student understand the lesson . income - drink-drive - disabled The teacher will give handouts to students contain some new words on some pieces of paper and the meaning of each one on a strip of paper and ask them to work in pairs to match the word with its meaning. Then, he drills the pronunciation .

Exposure to target language .Highlighting of form . (4-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language .

In this stage of the lesson, the students will notice the target language through listening . Three people use if to talk about imagined situation .The teacher will ask students to read exercise 3-b before they listen. Then, they work individually to fill in the gaps while listening .After that, in pairs they check their answers. Answers : 1- would definitely ; wouldn't feel . 2- 'd never ; stepped ; was speeding ; would never. 3- have to admit that I would do ; would never ; 'd put .

Language Clarification (10-12 minutes) • to introduce the target language

Teacher will write the following sentence on the board : If the ticket inspectors came around, I would offer to pay. Then, he asks students what is the grammar name of this sentence . 1- Teacher elicits the meaning of the sentence by asking CCQs. *Is this a real or imagined situation ? Imagined. *Are we talking about past, present, or future ? Present or future . 2- Teacher elicits the form using some cards and askink students to put them in the correct order to be as follows If + subject + past simple, subject + would + would + verb base form . 3- Teacher elicits the pronunciation of the sentence asking students to say it . Then he provide the correct pronunciation ( intonation )and they drill .Then he highlights the short form of would . then students will be asked to finish the Analysis task in pairs .

Controlled practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare student for more meaningful practice

In this stage of lesson , teacher demos the first example with students not for them .He asks someone to read the first sentence and answer it . Then they work in groups of four or five to answer the rest of examples . Next, they check their answers .I will allow more time for this stage . After they finish i check their answer and give them feedback .

Free practice • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In this stage of lesson , students will be asked to work in groups of four or five. First they look at exercise 2 page 97. Then, they take notes . After that, teacher demos with them an example. Next, everyone takes a paper with a question
