Description

In this lesson, I am going to teach present simple in the context of jobs and activities that we do every day.

Materials

Abc English File - elementary level-
Abc Pair work handout

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of simple present tense in the context of jobs

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review of ordinary jobs around us

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will talk about my self. I will write sentences on the board: I am a teacher. I work in British Side school. I like my job. and try to engage them to write the same sentences about a Turkish singer.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will ask concept questions, trying to elicit that these activities are repeated, are about now, not future, not past. will ask them questions about their job. then I will ask questions about their jobs, pointing out on location, situation, devices etc. to make their minds ready for the upcoming listening activity. we'll go through the activity of the book, anagrams.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

after drilling with everybody, I will go back to the board and highlight the written form, question form of the simple present. asking them to come to the board and write some sentences. after that, we go through the listening activity of the book. I explain about it, try to check that they understand the game, play it once, then I will give them 1 minute to talk about it for one minute and then I try to highlight the questions contestants ask, helping them to guess the job. after that, we listen to the rest of the listening and finish it. During all the stages I try to encourage short answers like" yes I do", "No, I don't".

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I gove them a page with 6 activities on it, ask them to check the boxes they do or they like, write their name on top and give it to another person, then I will ask questions about that the other person from his/her partner. here objectives are to highlight the correct use of simple present for the third person and also short answer.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

we do the game "guess his/her job". I will have some jobs ready, will sit someone in the front, give him a job and make others guess his job by asking questions, to help them I will write question words on the board, where, how, what, etc.
