Main Aims

To provide scan and detailed reading practice using a text about Wedding

Subsidiary Aims

To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of wedding

Procedure (39-57 minutes)

Warmer/Lead-in (3-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Q&A about wedding planning What do you think about marriage? Do you think is it important to have a wedding which includes all your relatives and friends? If so what would you do to include everyone?

While-Reading/Listening 1 (2-4 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Give the news article about Simonne and Ryan Freeney to the students with the handout. Tell the students to skim the text quickly and find what the text about and what type of text it can be?

While-Reading/Listening #2 (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Get to the second part of the handout which is about scanning.

While-Reading/Listening #3 (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Get to the 3rd part of the handout which is an intense reading task.

Post-Reading/Listening (20-25 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Divide the students into two big groups and set a debate about the questions on the first part in which one group will be defending the idea which suggests that it is important to include everyone to the wedding and the other group will refute this idea.
