Description

In this lesson, students will learn about Prefixes: their meanings and how to use them. The lesson starts with a lead in: a short video for a woman that mispronounces the word ‘Google’. Then students match some sentences to the correct words through listening followed by a listening exercise to find the stressed syllables on some words. The last activity will be a speaking activity to speak about common misspelled or pronounced words.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show SS a short video for a teacher who mispronounces the word ‘Google’. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPjk2XfqR9w Ask SS to find answers to three questions while they are watching the video. SS discuss the three questions in pairs. Whole class feedback Questions: Where is she? What is her job? What is the problem?

PP 20 part 3 ex.1 Handouts closed, tell SS "you are going to hear a series of short conversations. After each one, you should turn to a partner and retell in your own words what it was about." Model the answer for the first conversation. Play the recording, pausing after each conversation and allowing SS to speak.
