Description

In this class the students will practice speaking and listening about eating and drinking habits. There is a survey about eating habits and a listening task. The listening task is one person's answers to the survey. The listening will set an example for students, so that when they do the survey in the class they can use it as a reference point. The students will practice "Wh+Do you ...?" structure.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • Setting the context

Teacher introduces himself, greets students. Teacher pairs Ss up. Gives them some questions to discuss. (Qs: 1. What do we need to do to stay alive? 2. How about our eating and drinking habits? 3. Do we eat at home or outside? 4. How many meals are there in a day?) First 3 Qs are to discuss in pairs. And after the 4th Q, teacher writes the names of daily meals as a cline on the WB.

The Survey (5-6 minutes) • To elicit the words from Ss, and see what they have already know about the TL

Teacher introduces the survey. Explains the task. Pairs SS up. Distributes the HOs. Ss will have to guess the missing words from the survey. The missing words are ...1.day, 2.eat, 3.fish, 4.restaurant, 5.family, 6.school.

Listening 1 (3-4 minutes) • To correct any possible mistakes

Teacher plays the recording and Ss check their answers. Teacher might play the recording more than once if necessary.

Listening 2. (5-6 minutes) • Practicing listening skills in the TL

Teacher plays the recording again. This time students have to match the answers with questions from the survey. Teacher might play the recording more than once, if it's necessary. Answers: A6, B5, C1, D4, E3, F2.

Listening 3 (8-12 minutes) • To practice shadow reading in order to improve Ss' pronunciation.

First students read the recordings' text in pairs, then they read it in groups, and at last they do shadow reading with the CD.

Speaking 1 (5-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice their speaking skills in the TL

Students first do the survey with their pairs, then they have to remember what their pairs say, because later they will have to say what they have talked to the WC.

Speaking 2(Extension) (6-8 minutes) • practicing short answers in present tense, and adverbs of frequency

Questions: 1. Which is your favorite restaurant? 2. Do you like fish/meat? 3. How often do you go there? 4. What do you like about that place? 5. Is it an expensive place?

Closing (2-3 minutes) • Error correction

Before finishing the class, teacher points out the mistakes that he observed during the class without giving any names.
