Description

In this lesson, students will look at the job interviews and killer questions (questions that are difficult to answer). Students will read a leaflet giving advice on prepairing for interviews. They will have a controlled practice when they read the text. After the text they will have a free practice.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T play the funny video about the origin of job interviews -T asks Ss the foolowing questions: "Have you ever hada an interview?", "What was it for?", "How did you feel" and "What was the result?" -T elicits some answers from Ss.

Pre-Reading Task (5-6 minutes) • To activate the schemata and prepare students for the text

-T leads in by focusing on the title of the lesson (killer questions) and elicit what it means -T deliver HO1 for exercise 1B. -Ss look at the questions. -T gives Ss 3 minutes to rank questions -Ss compare answers in pairs -T elicits the answers in pairs

Pre-Teach Vocabulary (9-10 minutes) • To reduce barriers to understanding the text

-Ss unfold the HO1 -Ss match the definitions with the words and compare answers in pairs -T asks CCQs and drills the words and writes pronunciations on the board. -T provides Ss with the answer key

Skimming Task (7-8 minutes) • To provide students the global understanding of the text

-T delivers the HO2 -T reads the instructions with the class and checks if the Ss undertands the meaning of recruitment agency. -T asks Ss what kind of advice the leaflet might give -Ss reads the paragraphs and match with the headings in exercise 2a. - ss check their answers in pairs -T elicit answers from the Ss -T provides Ss with answer key

Reading for Detail (8-9 minutes) • To provide students deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the text

-Ss unfold the HO2 and read the sentences first. -SS read the text again and find which ideas are mentioned in the leaflet -Ss compare answers in pairs. -T elicit answers from Ss. -T provides Ss with the answer key.

Post-Reading (7-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-Teacher projects the discussion topic on the board. -T gives Ss one minute to think about their answers and put them in groups (or pairs) for discussion. -T allows Ss five minutes for discussion. -T monitors Ss to spot vocabulary mistakes. -T gets a few ideas from different groups.

Post-Reading#2 (5-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-The class is going to do this activity if all other stages finish sooner than their estimated time. -T puts Ss in pairs -Ss think about some killer questions -Ss change partners and ask questions -T monitors Ss -T asks Ss if they got good answers from their partners. -T provides FB
