Description

By the end of this lesson, the students will be practised the words which tell us what people do that end in-er,-or,-ian, or -ist. After a short lead-in, the students will be shown some pictures to get them familiarize with the topic and they will do exercises that are given by the teacher. The teacher elicits, asks concept checking questions and drills the words on the board and then ss will do some more exercises. At the end an act out, word game and speaking activity are done.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification,review and practice the language of jobs.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of famous people that the students admire.Firstly,to get the students elicit the words without speaking and then by telling without using the words that are written in their cards.

Procedure

Stage 1(Lead In) (2 minutes) • To provide Ss brainstorming.

Ask Ss to think about a famous person that they admire and ask them talk about that person with their pairs.Ask -what does he or she do? -Why do you admire him or her?

Stage 2 (4 minutes) • To elicit the names of jobs.

Show some pictures.Ask them -who is he or she? -What does he or she do? Elicit the names of activities from the studens.Drill the names of activities that may be difficult to pronounce.Then write on the board some of them and say that the words that tell us what people do mostly end in -or,-er,-ian,-ist.

Stage 3 (10 minutes) • To clarify the categories of the words(jobs) that end in -er,-or,-ist,-ian.

Give the students an exercise to put the words in correct column.(Demonstrate an example)Then ask them to check their answers with their pairs.Write on the board -er,-or, -ist,-ian.Whole class join and say their answers,the teacher writes,elicits and asks concept checking questions and drills.Show stress at the words which are problematic while drilling.

Stage 4 (4 minutes) • To get the students practice the jobs by sharing their ideas with each other

Give Ss the exercise and ask them look at the pictures and write the job for each picture.Ask them compare their answers and discuss why they matched the jobs with the picyures.Give them the answer key and ask some concept checking questions about the pictures that may be problematic.

Stage 5 (5 minutes) • To get the students practice the words that they have learned

Ask Ss unfold the paper. Try to write the job for each definition.Ask Ss to check the answers with their pairs.One of the pairs go outside find the answer key and compare their answers with the answer key.

Stage 6 (10 minutes) • To get the students practice the words that they have learned

Give each of the students 3 word cards that the jobs and their definitions are written on it.Ask them not to show to anyone.Ss work on it for 2 or 3 minutes and then they come to board and try to tell their jobs by gestures or materials and the whole class try to guess -to speak is not allowed while tying to tell the words. Give each of the students different word cards and tell them to work on it but this time the students try to tell without saying the words that are written on their cards.They try to tell their jobs without saying the words and the whole class try to guess.

Stage 7 (10 minutes) • To get the students talk to each other by answering the questions that are related to the vocabulary that they have learned

Ask students to think about the three famous people that they admire from the categories of sport,music/art,film/tv,historical and other.Ask Ss to tell their pairs by answering the three questions that the teacher writes on the board.After this free activity,the teacher gives feedback about the mistakes that are picked up during the monitoring.At the end of the lesson the tecaher writes on the board the correction of the errors that are picked up during the lesson for giving the students delayed feedback.
