Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of letters A,B, C, D,E,F in the context of ABC words

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of Greeting in the context of introducing with the characters of the pupil's book

Procedure

Warmer (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Say Hello to Ss, What's your name?. How are you? Listen and sing Hello song

Exposure (2-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a situation

Look! Who's this? Let's ask("What's your name?"," how are you?") We introduce the characters. Then we say "This is Lulu, this is Larry. This is Nanny Shine and this is Chuckles".

Highlighting (1-1 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Larry and Lulu learn the alphabet.Let's learn it, too! Do you know the letters? (I show the ABC poster and Ss name the letters)

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I show the pictures and name them. Ss repeat. Game echo. I say the first letter and Ss say the word. I show only the piece of the picture and Ss guess what card it is. I mime and say the words, Ss copy me. We revice one more time: mime+sound+word. I mime-Ss say the word I write down on the board big letter A and name it. We write the letter A in the air. I write down on the board small letter a and write in the air. I put a picture of an ant on the board and say /a/-ant. Write down "ant" and underline letter A then I say /ei/-/a/-ant We learn 5 letters in this way

Controlled Practice (10-14 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I show the mime-Ss say the name of the letter, then soun and word. Writing practice. I give them a sheet of paper and we write down the letters, Ex.1 -what is missing letter? A-___, ___-b, C-__, ___-d Ex.2-I give the cards with pictures and words without the first letters. Ss write the missing letter

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

I show the picture and Ss name the letter. "What letter is it?" I put the cards on my knees and say "I can see a dog. What letter is it?" -/di/ I write the word on the board and Ss read it (ant, bed, dog, cat)

Goodbye (1-3 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

We say goodbyu to the characters sing the song Goodbye
