Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson, ss will have practised listening for gist and detailed information in the context of friendship.

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of this lesson, ss will have practised the question form of "have/ has got " and their short answers.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Play an audio of birthday song. T. asks "what's this?" A birthday song. Is it a special day? Do you love this day? (Yes) Why? work in pairs to think about that. listen and write their ideas especially the word presents for the next stage

Warm-up (3-5 minutes) • To prepare and direct them to the lesson.

T. highlights the word presents by drawing a circle around it and asks ss "What presents do you give your friends? Open class discussion. Write down their ideas. T. what about bands ? Do you give your friends bands? T. shows a picture of the word . Drill the word CCqs to check comprehension: Is it thin? - Can we put it around this area? (T. points to her wrist and can tell them the word )

Pre-Listening (2-4 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T. directs ss to Ex1. How many sentences do you have?(3) Read these sentences alone and tick the sentence that you agree with. you have only one minute ICQs; Are you going to work with your partner?(No. Alone) Are you going to write anything?(No . just a tick) Discuss with your partner. T. looks at one pair and asks " Sentence no.1 Do you both agree? If yes , T. asks who also agrees? ------Ss raise hands. 2- ss read the text to answer this question: Why do people like friendship bands? Individual work Peer check WCFB

While-Listening #1 (2-4 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

You are going to listen to a girl named Ella . She talks about her hobbies. Listen and answer this question: What are Ella's hobbies? Ss listen to a part of the conversation and write down answers. Peer check WCFB

While- Listening #2 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Play the audio again . Listen carefully to complete the sentences. Peer checking. WCFB NB.Play the audio again if needed.

Post listening (2-3 minutes) • To personalise the topic

Do you have a hobby? What is it ? Open class discussion.

Exposure, highlight and clarification of the TL (3-5 minutes)

Go back to Ex. 4 Underline the verb in the first three sentences. A quick review on the (+) and (-) form. How can we make a question. elicit. If not Look at the 3 sentences Ex1 Grammar : what's different about the verb? Elicit the question form on the board. Drill chorally and individually . Focus on rising intonation with the question and falling one with the answers.

Controlled practice (1-3 minutes) • To concept check and prepare ss for more meaningful practice

Chest the book and tell ss to match the questions and answers. Encourage early finishers to write answers on the board. Check with the whole class.

Semi-controlled practice (1-3 minutes) • To check concept further and make the structure easy for ss to use

Ss work individually to answer Ex.2

Freer Practice (3-5 minutes) • Speak and use the TL fluently

Walk around the classroom Ask and answer questions in Ex2 Write names of people who agrees with you . T. models the activity first to avoid any misunderstanding. Monitor keeping low profile and record any errors to deal later correct pronunciation mistakes if found .
