Main Aims

  • Speaking for fluency in telling anecdotes in the context of parties.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Practise listening skills to provide Ss with a model for speaking in the context of parties..

Procedure

Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To arouse Ss' interest in the topic& find out what lexis Ss know

Use visuals to elicit idea of party and party themes. Use superman themed party visual. to elicit a party theme? finger highlight ?''a birthday party with a theme'' e.g I want to give a party with a black&white theme- everything has to be black&white.

Focus on TL (1) (5-7 minutes) • To introduce Ss to target vocabulary to focus them on M&P

Put sorted party names cut-ups on W/B. Ss brainstorm what these parties for.-Tell Ss: Work with a partner. Discuss when and why people have these types of party? Ss in pairs discuss the meaning of the words/phrases in cut-ups. One set of cut-ups for each pair. CCQ's: e.g Do you have a housewarming party when you sell your house?- No... Monitor and take notes if there is something to correct or they misunderstand. problem ones explain on W/B- w/c feedback. focus on pronunciation.

Focus on TL 2 (4-5 minutes) • To introduce the vocab.& topic of the recording they will listen to.

Use second set of cut-ups for listening task on W/B elicit meaning of moving abroad, come up with something, dress up as, fairy lights, ice-braker. CCQ's: Do you say I'm moving abroad when you are moving to Ankara? What can you dress up as? give me an example? Fairy lights? where do we use them?

Listening for gist (5-7 minutes) • To do 1.st part of exercise 1

Use Paul's pictures- This is Paul and we're going to listen to him in a minute. He tells us about a fancy dress party he went to. Give out exercise 1 and specify they will only answer which question did he not answer? Ss listen. FB in pairs. then w/c FB

Listening for specific information (5-7 minutes) • Ss listen for specific information related to exercise 1 for matching questions with answers

With the exercise 1 paper they have got, Ss match the questions with the correct answers. Ss listen again to check. check their answers in pairs. Ss. then check with answer keys. Answer keys on the wall.

Speaking (10-12 minutes) • Free speaking for fluency & to personalise the topic.

Get Ss' response to listening Instruction: I want you to work in your groups for this. Tell each other about a party you've been to. Try to choose an interesting one. Think about what to say and how to say it. You can use the questions in exercise1 for ideas.(preperation time) We will choose the most interesting party for the class. Monitor, help when needed. Take notes, corrections on the W/B.

Speaking 2- Flexi stage (5-7 minutes) • Ss brainstorm about a potential party they would give.

Ask Ss if they gave a party, what sort of a party would it be? what heme would it be? place? who would they invite?
