Description

The topic of this lesson is the cinema. Cinema vocabulary is presented and then put into practice in a questionnaire where sts talk about their own cinema preferences and experiences. Then sts read a sample film review and then write a review of a film.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of cinema

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows some film posters that her sts will know which are set in different countries. Then T elicits the names of the films, where the film is set, the name of the actors/actresses.

Exposure (10-15 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

Sts work in pairs and match the photos with the kinds of films. T elicits the answers. Then sts work in pairs again and match the nouns and definitions. T elcits the answers.

Task (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Sts read the questions in the cinema interview and think about their answers for a few minutes. Then in pairs, sts interview each other to find if they have similar tastes.

Planning (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to plan students' reports

Sts plan to tell about their partners to another pair. T walks around and helps sts if they need it.

Report (8-10 minutes) • To allow students to report on how they did the task and how it went

Sts tell about their partners to another pair and see if they also have similar tastes. T monitors and correct them.
