Description

In this lesson SS are going to read a text about a man who was ready to give twitter accounts he already had to Canadian,Brazilian, and Spanish governments. SS are going do group work to better understand the text. SS are also going to practice speaking and some writing skills. (SS are going to be given different parts of the text and report it to other groups).

Main Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about social media in the context of daily life

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1- T presents a pictures on board (appendix 1). 2- SS are asked to look at the picture and try to make links of between those pictures. 3- Group work, SS are working on giving possible stories based on the pictures on board.

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

1- T teaches vocabulary 2- T divides SS into pairs. 3- T gives each pair group couple of handouts. 4- T instructs SS that one student asks the first question mentioned in HO1. The other SS is given HO2 and is asked to answer the question. 5- T asks SS to witch turns. 6 T gives feedback Ho3

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

1- T divides SS into two groups. 2- T gives group 1 HO4. T fold the paper that the bottom part that has answer key is not revealed. T Instructs them to do it. 3- T gives group 1 HO5. T fold the paper that the bottom part that has answer key is not revealed. T Instructs them to do it. 4- SS are asked to read the passages in the handouts, do the exercises, and check their answers using the answer key in each handout. 5- Each group appoint a spokesman to read aloud the statements mentioned in their HO and correct them.

While-Reading/#2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

1- T divides SS into two groups. 2- T hands each group HO6. 3- T instructs SS to read the questions first, then read the passage. 4- Class discussion for acceptable answers 5- T gives feed back HO7

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

1- T divides SS groups. 2- T hands SS HO8. 3- T instructs SS to ask partners in group one question each time. 4- SS are instructed to switch turns. 5 - whole class discussion.
