Main Aims

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice in speaking to improve fluency and accuracy about the same context of the main aim

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start the lesson by asking students if they are interested in history and knowing many information about someone or if they have ever visited any historical place like the pyramids, Egyptian museum.

Setting the context (4-5 minutes) • To link the lead-in and begin building a situation of the target language and get students attention

I will show them the photo of Rushmore Mount and ask them if they are familiar with this place, where they think this place in, why do they think these people have done great works for their country, do they think they are known for the same thing. I will try to elicit from them that they all ruled the US one day.

Pre-Reading/Listening (pre teaching the difficult vocabularies) (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the audio and make it accessible by teaching the blocking voacabularies

I will pre teach the students the difficult words such as: in front of, president, declaration, independence, famous, I will show them pictures and try to elicit the words. I will also elicit how they read years like 1801 and 1842. I will explain in brief how to read these years. For each word, I will pronounce the word, they listen, and then they repeat, after that I will write the word on the board with the word class (verb, noun, adjective, or preposition)

While-Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

I will chest hold the paper of the exercise and try to elicit the task from the students I will ask them: how many heads do we have here? do you see this question? yes, this is a... and they will say a matching, I will tell them that these are the first names and surnames of these people. I will use my body language to elicit from them that they are going to listen and write down the answer or match. I will tell them that we will listen to the audio for two times and in the second time I will pause the audio after each name, and they will check together. when everything is done, I will ask them to stand up to check their answers from the answer sheet on the wall.

While-Listening #2 Listening for details (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

I will chest hold the paper of the second activity and use my body language and gesture to elicit that they are going to listen and write the answers. I will stress that the missing words are either numbers or dates. i will tell them that they are going to listen for two times. I will play the audio and in the second time I will pause the audio to give them the opportunity to write. If they need to listen for a third time, I will play it. After they are finished, I will ask them to check with their partner and after that I will ask them to stand up and they will find the answer sheet on the wall. I will ask them if they have any problem with the answers.

Post-Listening Speaking (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I will ask students to talk about their visit to any historical place like the pyramids, I will ask them to tell me whom they went with, if they saw tourists from different places, if they enjoy their time. I will demonstrate the task by telling them about my visit to Philae Temple in Aswan and I went with my brother, we took a boat to reach to the place, I saw many tourists and our guide told us great information about this place and I took many photos, then I will ask them to do as I did.
