Description

In this lesson, students will do some reading and a little bit of speaking in the context of Coffee Break. They will learn how to scan and find out specific information as well as the general meaning of the text.

Main Aims

  • To give Ss practice in reading for specific information and detail in the context of "Coffee Break"

Subsidiary Aims

  • To give Ss practice in speaking about the consumption of coffee on daily basis in the context of "Coffee Break"
  • To provide some useful words to expand their vocabulary passage and all the contents are taken from " Coffee Break"

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show pictures of the people who are having coffee and elicit from the students what they are doing, then ask them to speak in pairs about the given questions e.g what's your favorite drink? etc

Pre-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Now, Ss need to look at the pictures and then elicit from them about the pictures. After that, they will have to match each picture with the correct paragraph from 1 - 4.

While-Reading #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading

Ss need to scan countries names of the countries in the article and underline them.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Ss are asked to find out the connection between coffee and countries. Demonstration will be given before distributing handouts

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss are asked to find out the words which definitions are written in the reading EX # 3.
