Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of wishes and regrets in the context of memoirs and personal examples

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of regrets

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show photos on the projector and ask what do you think about these photos? discuss it with your friend elicit Memory, wishes, and regret.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Students will Match wishes and regrets with six memories in Reality check peer check Students will write the answers on the board Show the answers

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Show the bold sentences on the board an tell them what are they? elicit word regret are they hobbies or regrets? regrets explain regret if needed (something that didn't happen/happened in the past. )

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Look at the regrets in bold in HO1 work in pairs and figure out the structure for each. Monitor and check for errors. Give them ready for clarification MFP

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I use CCQs to clarify meaning, form, and pronunciation by using language analysis sheet Show stress on: 1) wish 2) found 3) done 4) wasted 5) getting, hadn't 6) biggest Show connected speech of I'd (/aɪd/), should've (/ʃʊdəv/ shoul-uhv), if only (fonly), it's a pity (sapity) (pronoun drilling)

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Hand out 2 Gap filling work alone peer check stick answers on the wall.

Free Practice (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will drow a person on the board with speech bubbles and tell them to write at least two sentences for each using the structure in HO 1 Peer check who has the funniest sentence?
