Description

This lesson will focus on listening skills in the context of plane travel and airports. It will include vocabulary such as security, check-in, boarding pass etc.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed and specific information in the context of Plane Travel

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide claryfication of related vocabulary and practice speaking for fluency.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (AIRPORT pICTURES) (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show a collection of airport photos that only reveal a portion of the scene and have the students guess where it is.

Pre-Reading/Listening (WORD MATCH) (5-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Using the three picture scenes from the text, students will find the new vocabulary and circle it. 1. Show and give instructions 2. Hand out list of vocabulary words and the three scenes. 3. Students work in Pairs to complete and Peer check with their neighbors 4. FB Students board the answers as they finish (project images and circle items on board) * draw student's attention to check-in verb vs. noun?

While-Reading/Listening #1 (SCENE ORDER) (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

While listening to the audio, students will arrange the three scenes in order as they hear them. 1. Explain the task while showing the scenes again 2. Listen to the recording 3. FB elicit the correct order of the scenes from the students. * DON'T TALK -should be a very quick FB stage

Post-Reading/Listening (ORDER THE ACTIONS) (5-7 minutes) • To test students understanding of the order of events in the listening excersise.

Students receive HO of Ex. 2 where they will order the actions in the recording. 1. Show HO and give instructions 2. give to students and have them work in pairs to order the sentanaces 3. Project Ex. on board and have early finishers board the answers 4. FB elicit from students if boarded answers are correct

While-Reading/Listening #2 (DEATAIL EX) (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Have students listen to the recording again while looking for details pertaining to Ex. 3 1. Show and give instructions for handout 2. Listen and do Excersise in Pairs 3. FB have students board the answers as they finish * be prepared to stop or rewind the recording as needed * depending on length of recording, perhaps replay it to check information?

Post-Reading/Listening (STORY SHARING) (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Have students share a story of their own when they were traveling through an airport or on a plane. 1. No it's your turn, share your own story with your partner * maybe your late, missed a flight, etc 2. switch to the other partner and share
