Description

In this lesson, students will learn expressions and phrasal verbs with "take" through a guided discovery language lesson. The general context of the lesson which is risks will be the same as previous lessons. The Ss will do some controlled, semi-controlled and freer practice and MPF will be covered for the vocabulary which is the TL of the lesson.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show these three sentences on the board(projector) and I will ask the students to work in pairs, read the sentences and ask do you agree or not? 1. We have to take out insurance when you travel. 2. Taking risk is just sensational-seeking. 3. We need to take the risks involved in driving very seriously. Then, I elicit some answers.

Exposure and highlighting (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation and get Ss to think about the meaning of expressions and phrasal verbs with take. Also, To draw students' attention to the target language.

I will show the highlight of take out insurance, taking risks and take .. very seriously and tell students in pairs talk and think about the meaning of take in these sentences. Work together peer check Show meaning Then I will tell the students that today's target language and main focus is expressions and phrasal verbs with take. (I will explain the word expression and phrasal verb if needed)

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

HO1, Work alone matching activity, they should match the sentences with the different meaning of take. Peer check I will ask them to come to the WB and write the answer Then, I will answer questions if they have any. Answer key: 1.A 2.H 3.C 4.D 5.F 6.I 7.G 8.E 9.B Once there is no question, I will drill some of the sentences in HO1.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will show an example of how to create a real sentence from the phrasal verb. work alone write only 4 or 5 examples from the HO1 answers. example: I take after my mother, for example, we both have the same sense of humour peer check elicit some good sentences

Semi-Controlled Practice (13-15 minutes) • To concept check further and to provide students to practice target language.

I will tell the students that they are going to interview, but you should fill these gaps first peer check Students write the answers on WB Regroup students and ask students to chose 5 or 6 questions and interview 3 people ( not in your group) Once they are done they will sit back in their groups again and tell their partner about the information they got.

If time controlled practice (5-7 minutes) • To check students understanding of meaning and form.

If there is more time and all the Ss finish their previous activities earlier than my plan and assumption, I will give them HO2 and ask them this gap fill activity from your WB. peer check Students write answers on the board.
