Description

In this lesson, students will practice gist listening and detail listening. Lesson will be within the context ''relationships and internet ''. They will listen to the comment about the film 'You've Got Mail.' They will practice on phrasal verbs which are mostly passed within the listening context.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set the lesson context and engage students with it

T will elicit from the Ss about the internet and the purposes of using the internet. Then will direct them to talk about the internet chatroom and online dating which is familiar for them from the previous lesson. T will check if they understand it with CCQs. Then T will ask Ss whether they've ever had an experience about the internet chatroom. Will ask to talk with their pairs. Asking ICQs to check if they know what are they talking about. - Will we talk about living rooms? No. - Will we talk about internet chatrooms? Yes.

Pre-Listening (5-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the listening and make it accessible

T will ask Ss about their favourite films. Will elicit from Ss about types of movies. T will tell Ss that they will see a poster for the film 'You've Got Mail' and open it. Ask Ss to talk with their pairs about the poster for less than 1 min. T Elicit from Ss about the type of this film. T will ask CCQs if any S come up with the correct answer. T will pre-teach some words that will be helpful throughout the listening. T will tell Ss what they will be listening to. Will support with ICQs: - Is it a record/listening about a comedy show? No. - Is it something about Hababam Sinifi? No. - Is it something about a film ? Yes.

Gist Listening (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

Ss will practice listening for gist. Ss will check their answer about the type of the film. T will give 1 min. to Ss for talking about the listening and doing the pair-check.

Detailed-Listening (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

T will hand out the HOs for the activity Listening 2. Will ask Ss to put the events in the correct order with their pairs as much as they remember. T will play it several times for Ss to put the sentences in correct order. After enough playing, T will open the PPT for the feedback.

Post-Listening- 1 (4-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T will chest the HOs for the activity Listening 3 asking Ss to work in pairs and find the connection between the words and the story. T will use ICQs to make the Ss more clear about the task. - Have we heard these words throughout the listening? Yes. - Is this the first time that we see them? No. - Are they connected to the story? Yes. As a feedback, T will give out the tapescript.

Post listening- 2 Vocabulary activity (9-10 minutes) • To provide students with the phrasal verbs that are used in the context and completing the sentences

T will chest the HO for the activity- Vocabulary 1. Then will ask Ss to fill the gaps with the prepositions that are given and try to match the half sentences within pairwork. T will consider the ICQs to check the instructions. After Ss are done with it, T will group them into three groups and will give each group two half of the sentences. T will ask them to match them with their group in a competitive way. T will ask ICQs to make the instructions clear and to achieve the task. - How many half sentences we have? Ten. - How many full sentences do we need? Five. - What do we need to do? Find the other half.

If time activity (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with opportunity to talk about their own experiences and expand on what they've learned

T will ask Ss to use the phrasal verbs in the activity Vocabulary 1 and talk about their experiences with their pairs. T will practice one example to make the task clear.
