Description

This lesson continues on from the previous 3 in the context of age and it's relation to appearance and fashion

Materials

Abc Speaking prompts 1&2;
Abc statements hand-out

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in the context of agreeing and disagreeing with opinions about fashion and it's relation to age and situation.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review and practice of language used for stating opinions in the context of fashion in relation to age and situation

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students look at pictures of a man with long grey hair, a girl with a pink streak in her hair, and a young boy with a tattoo on his neck and discuss their thoughts

Exposure (5-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Students discuss what they remember from the interview with Liza and Adrian in pairs.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Students look at statements regarding fashion and underline the words in the statement that show the statement to be somebody's opinion. They peer check and discuss whether they agree or disagree with the statements in pairs.

Productive Task(s) (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Students take 5 minutes to read material before discussing their opinions about fashion in relation to age and situations in groups. One students from each group notes down what is said and gives whole class feedback. Teacher monitors and takes notes for Feedback and error correction.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Students drill pronunciation and intonation and respond to eliciting questions as teacher provides feedback and error correction
