Description

In this lesson students will learn about lexical grammar of adjectives with speaking activities.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and review of adjectives in the context of age

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy and fluency speaking practice in a debate in the context of elders in society

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask Ss to guess what is the age of the teacher. Do they think that this age is good for being a teacher for them? What are their idea about being old and young? Which one is better? Share a small observation of younger people giving their seat to elders and the news about Japan from presentation1. Ask their opinion toshare with class

Exposure (3-4 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Ask the class to notice the adjectives from presentation. Ask them if majority is positive or negative Ss will put adjectives into the table as teenagers or elderly people from handout1 EXA Early finishers will help other groups If they finished early ask the questions for presentation for pair discussion Monitor – pay attention to any interesting points for FB Take some general FB

Highlighting (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ss will find a new partner then do the Ex:B from handout (3a from the book) Monitor and help if needed Let Ss know about adjective order and if they want to change their answers Give the key at the end If needed focus on unknown vocabulary. If possible Ss peer-teach. If not, help with meaning, examples and CCQs

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Ss change partners and will do Ex: C from handout (b from p135) Ss can check from the grammar point from the handout When they are finished Ss will come to the board and write the correct order of adjectives Monitor - pay attention forany interesting points for FB Then ask question 3 from 1b from whole class to respond

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss will do the ex:C from the handout (a from p135) in pairs Give them the key and form them as groups to check the answers Monitor - Give FB if necewssary

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ask Ss some of the questions from Ex 3c from the book and divide them into the groups with opposite opinions for discussion. showing from presentation If the groups seem finished with a topic, give them a new topic (pieces of paper) Monitor - give feedback at the end if necessary
