Description

In this lesson students learn about vocabulary and skills focused about cyberchondriac with the help of a reading text.

Main Aims

  • To enable Ss practice in reading for gist and detail, and in deducing meaning from context through a text about a cyberchondriac

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide Ss MFPA for vocabulary & Speaking

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher will start with sharing a personal story about his family and their relationship with doctors. Also will explain what is Medical students' disease (also known as second year syndrome) Ss will also share if they have a doctor in their family and how they feel about doctors in general.

Pre-Reading (4-4 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Ss will see presentation and work in pairs to think about:how they will define a hypochondriac and what cyberchondriac is by checking the photo and title of the reading material. Some pairs can share with class Ss will get the reading section (handout 1) and do a gist to check if their guess was right Feedback with whole class FB W/C

While-Reading #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

Ss will work in pairs to check the topics for the text from Handout 2 for 3 minutes Then some pairs will recieve the answer key and go to other pairs tocheck the naswers together. Teacher will make sure if everybody understood the answer

While-Reading #2 (14-15 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Ss will work in pairs to guess the meanings of underlined words in task 5c in 5 minutes Ss will share their answers with whole class Ss willlisten to task 5d to understand the answers as feedback Teacher will control if they understood the meaning at the end with CCQs

Post-Reading (8-9 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss will share what they think about the text to whole class If there isenough time Ss will start doing task 5e from the presentation and discuss the answer with their pairs Ss will share their answer in the feedback section with assist of the teacher
