Main Aims

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of ecology
  • To provide practice of ecology words in the context of travelling


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Make Ss pull realia from a bag with their eyes closed and guess what it is made from. Ss discuss in pairs other plastic objects they use.

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Draw Ss attention to ex.2. Pre-teach vocabulary by completing the matching exercise. Make Ss discuss the statements in ex.2 in small groups. Take a w/c FB.

While-Reading #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

Make Ss focus on the first two questions. Ss read the text for two minutes. Ss answer first two questions after peer-check. Ss look through questions 3-5 and answer questions after reading for the second time.

While-Reading #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

Ss look through statements from ex.4 Ss read the text again and answer T/F after peer-check. If the sentence is not true, Ss correct it. W/c FB

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Make Ss focus on the phrases to express their personal opinion. Ss give personal reactions to the text by working in pairs. Take w/c FB.
