Description

In this lesson students will use target language through guided discovery based on a reading text about working animals. The lesson starts with some pre-teach vocabulary about animals and nature features and follows with jigsaw reading which provides a way for students to learn new content and also provides an opportunity for them to teach each other what they have learned and discuss implications of the reading. They practce by asking questions to each other at the end of the lesson they produce their own sentences.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

To set the contex anfd engage students I will ask them Idf they love animals or do they have pets in their house, I will ask them to talk about animals.

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will show pictures form the Cuttin Edge pg.96 and ask SSs to work in pairs and find out which of the given words are shown in the picture. I will ask them to share their answers . after sharing I will ask them to come and categorize the words as animal or natural feature on the board.

While-Reading (7-9 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

I will ask students to divide into three groups, The reading text from cutting edge pg.97 is going to be red by using jigsaw reading method Students in three groups will read their part and will discuss their part.

While-Reading (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

Students will discuss their part in their groups, after that I will ask SS s to change their seats, I will make groups that have mixed SS s. Each group will have discuss the text. SS s will explain their part of the text. After sharing their parts, SSs will answer the questions on pg.97. I will ask SSs to choose a partner and share ans compare their answers.

Post-Reading (5-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

SSs will be given 2 minutes to prepare questions about animals they have learnt in the lesson and they will ask the questions to their partners.
