Description

In this lexis lesson, personality adjectives will be presented in the context of successful entrepreneurs. Students will practice the lexis following the presentation. The production phase will involve students discussing each other's personalities.

Main Aims

  • • To provide gist reading practice using a text about entrepreneurs in the context of an article

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

students will be given pictures of three famous entrepreneurs. The students will be asked who are they? And what do you know about them? followed by WC check

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Students will work in pairs and discuss the question What should a successful entrepreneur be? followed by a WC check teacher will board the students ideas.

Highlighting (5-10 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I'll elicit the words using various methods. Check the words, drill and write the words on the board. Following this I'll give the stress pattern of one of the words, then give the stress patterns for the rest of the words on a piece of paper. Students match the words to the stress patterns. Then students come to the board and write the stress patterns down WC check.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

students are given a worksheet, sts fill in the blanks using the correct word. Students check answers in small groups followed by WC check

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

students work in pairs and discuss the most important adjective for success. And explain why. Followed by WC check.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

students work in small groups and make guesses about their partners personality. Guess 2 adjectives about each person and explain why. Partners say if they think it's a good guess and why. followed by WC check and feedback.
