ELEMENTARY level

Description

In this lesson, students listen a song named "Thinking Out Loud" by Ed Sheeran. The lesson starts with a question about students' music taste. This is followed by activities related to the song. Finally, students practice vocabulary in the context of body parts and speaking in the context of music.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide deduction, inference and detailed in the context of song.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of music.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher asks students about their music habits. Questions are such as; - Do you like listening to music? - How often &when&where do you listen to music? - What kind of music do you listen? etc.

Pre-Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the listening and make it accessible

Teacher pre-teaches vocabulary and asks students to guess and fill in the blanks with the words given in the box. After students finish, teacher plays the song. Students check their answers.

While-Listening 1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening task

Teacher plays the song again and asks students to number the sentences in the correct order. Teacher elicits answers.

While-Listening 2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging listening tasks

Teacher plays the song one more time and asks students to fill in the blanks or choose the correct answer. Students try to catch the missing words and listen to find the correct answer.

Post-Listening (14-16 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to practice vocabulary and speaking

1- Teacher asks students to label the picture with body parts words given in the song. Teacher elicits answers by asking them to show body parts. 2- Teacher gives speaking cards about music and ask students to speak in pairs.
