Description

In this lesson, students will learn about talking on imaginary conditions using if second conditional clauses. The difference between zero, first conditional and second conditional will be made clear. They will practice by making their own sentences.

Materials

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of imaginary situations

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss watch the first minute of the "If I were a rich man" song. T asks Ss if they know the song. T keeps on asking on the topic of the video guiding for TL "Is he a rich man?" "What would you do if you were rich?" etc.

Exposure (7-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T hand outs a short dialogue on dreaming about winning a lottery. T asks Ss to read in pairs. T asks CCQ. At the end Ss needs to ask "what would you do, if you won the lottery?" to each other. T writes an interesting idea on the board, taking the attention for the structure. Drill.

Highlighting (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T gives different sentences (from the dialogue if 1,2 and extra if 0), asks to discuss in pairs to find the differences. By CCQ, T elicits and highlights the differences of the forms on WB.

Clarification (2-4 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T gives some handouts written the verbs to different students. T projects/writes three examples on WB (if, 0,1,2), Ss need to come up and need to fill in the blanks with the verb they are given. They need to place it to the right gap. This whole class activity is used to check the clarification. T corrects if there is an error by eliciting. CCQ.

Controlled Practice (5-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T gives handouts. T gives instructions for filling the blanks exercise. Ss answers. T projects the answers. Feedback for the mistakes.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-14 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss do GW. T gives instructions for the game. It is a dice game where . T models. ICQ. T monitors silently.

Feedback (2-4 minutes) • Error correction and clarification of the target language

After monitoring, T writes mistakes on WB, elicits for the right answers. Also shares the new vocabulary by eliciting.
