Description

In this lesson, students will learn some collocations through the topic of entertainment. Students will have a leaisure activities handout and then work on it in pairs. Then they will complete the phrases with the words in the box. Teacher will elicit the answers and if there is any mistake, teacher will ask students to find the correct one. Then students will put the phrases into categories and add two more verb phrases to each category. Then students will talk about their five favourite activities from the previous exercises and put them in order 1-5. Then students will work in pairs to make short dialogues about their favourite activities. Finally, students will work on another speaking activity which is miming and true false game.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will work in pairs to talk about what they usually do in their free time. They will also talk about what they don't like doing, too. Teacher will elicit the answers and then ask students what we call these activities. Teacher will elicit the answers and then ask Ss to repeat after her and ask individually to repeat after her the word ' Entertainment '. Then teacher will write the word on the board and show the stress and parts of speech, too.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

Teacher will give her leisure time activities as a model. For example, I go out for a walk. I usually don't cook for myself. Then teacher will ask Ss to repeat after her. If they have any problem, the teacher will cut the sentence so that it will be easier for the Ss to repeat after her. Then teacher will write the sentences on the board and underline the word phrases and ask Ss to repeat after her.

Task (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ss will take their handout from Cutting Edge Coursebook and do exercise 1 in pairs. They will use the words in the box to complete the phrases. Teacher will elicit the answers and guide them when there is a mistake. Then Ss will change their partners to go on with exercise 2 a and b. This time they will think about evening in and out activities and add two more verb phrases to each category.

Language Practice (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

Students will choose five favourite activities from the previous exercises and put them in order. They can also find different activities, too. This will be done individually and then teacher will elicit the answers. After this, Ss will work in pairs to make short dialogues comparing their favourite activities. They can get help from the sample which is in their handout. Teacher will elicit the answers.

Productive Task (10-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to be productive in order to use the collocations.

Teacher will divide the class into two groups. It may change according to the number of students in class. Then each group will have a set of cards. They will first mime the card and ask the group to guess and then make a sentence using the phrase that they guessed correctly. The other group will find out if the sentence is tru or false. İf they know correctly then they will get 1 point. The winner group will have chocolate at the end.
