Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T starts by showing pictures and asks follow up questions about both of them: 1- murder, T asks: - what is in this picture? - a crime/ murder. - do you think we are allowed to do this? - No 2- pets, T asks: - What is in this picture? - pets - are we free to have any pet we like? - yes - is it legal in Egypt to have pets in our houses? - yes 3- Smoking, T asks: -What is the man doing in this picture? - he is smoking. -do you think it is legal to smoke in public places? -yes

preparation (5-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through vocabulary task

-T asks SS to have a look at the words in EX1 and to check their dictionaries for the meaning. -T monitor and help SS if needed. -SS check in pairs , then teacher provides an answer key. -T demos EX2 and elicit information about the vocabulary meaning and ask SS to answer. -SS check in pairs , then T provides an answer key.

Useful Language (3-5 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

-T asks SS to read the controversial sentences quickly and tick if they agree, cross if they disagree or use a question mark if they weren't sure. -T clarifies the use of useful language for expressing opinions and how to express agreement or disagreement and presenting views to others.

Productive Task (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

-T asks SS to work in small groups of three , each group choose three topics from the controversial statements. -T asks SS to have to prepare their ideas and write down notes that might help them to express their ideas. - each group starts to discuss topics and share if they agree or disagree with one another's opinions. -after 10m T asks SS to share their view with the class in general and the rest of the class say if they agree or disagree.

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

-T gives a content feedback. -T takes notes while monitoring, and correct them at the end of the class.
