In this lesson .ss are going to do a speaking practice in the context of someone they admire .

Main Aims

  • To provide practice in speaking in the context of talking about someone you admire .

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice in the functional language in the context of someone you admire .

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask ss to give you some names of famous people in their country . Ask ss to look at the photos of some people .Ask them if they know them.Use them to help ss think of someone they admire . Ask ss which of these people can they recognise and why they like any of them . Ss say what they know about them and which of them they admire.

Preparation (5-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening

1- Tell ss they are going to listen to two people. They are talking about two personalities they admire. Ask them to take as many notes as they can while listening. Play the audio once and play it again if ss ask for that. After ss finish, tell them to check the notes they have taken. Give them an answer key.

Useful Language (5-8 minutes) • To elicit and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Ask ss to think of phrases , expressions that can be used when they describe some one they know and admire. Tell them to work in pairs . Give them a model Ahmed Zuwail had achievements in chemistry . Use ICQs. Are you going to do this in pairs or alone? in pairs Are you to going to write or speak ? speak . Give them 4 minutes at the maximum. After they finish, show them some functional language they can use to talk about an admirable personality. Ask them if they have difficult words. Help with explanation but do not over clarify unnecessary items.

Productive Task(s) (20-22 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skill.

Ask ss to work in pairs. Tell they to talk about some one they admire and focus on the reasons they love them. Monitor the whole class and help with language ss may need.

Feedback and Error Correction (3-4 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Provide feedback for the mistakes you heard during the ss work. If you still have time, choose one or two ss to talk in public about the personality they have chosen.
