Description

In this lesson, SS learn about the use of can and can't. Practice their listening skill as T sets the context with videos and audios.

Materials

Abc Videos, pictures, handout including grammar and speaking activities and a questionnaire.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of can and can't in the context of people' abilities

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about star quality

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Set the context: -T use videos of people singing, to set the context of the lesson, then elicit information about their abilities of singing, and use CCQ to check their understanding. -T attempts to elicit sentences and drill them with SS. Vocabulary teaching: -T provides pictures and examples to teach ( star quality, guitar, dance )

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-T asks SS to have a look at the listening exercise 1b, demos carefully, uses ICQ: 1-Are you going to listen once or twice? -Once. 2- Are you going to write sentences or only names? -names. -SS check in pairs then listen again, T provides an answer key when SS finish. -T elicit answers from SS about exercise 1c, SS listen once and check in pairs.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

-T demos exercise 1d and explains how to form negative, positive and question forms, drill sentences. SS fill gaps and check in pairs, then T provides the answer key on the board. - T uses the board for grammar highlighting, elicit information from SS.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-T demos exercise E. SS work in open and close pairs, using can for asking and answer with ( sing , play the guitar and dance).

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

-T provides questionnaire, where SS move around the class asking one another questions and write down their answers.
