Travel lessons, Present continuous for future plans

Description

In this lesson, sts get familiar with the notion of house exchange through personalization, pair discussion and reading. Then , T guides them to the grammar part of present continuous form for future plans through some controlled practices related to the reading part. At the end sts have a speaking practice by using future tenses to increase their accuracy.

  • To provide clarification and practice of present continuous for future plans in the context of travel

  • To provide gist and scan in the context of travel and house exchange

Procedure

lead-in (0-5 minutes) • To engage the with the notion of house exchanging annd elicit that

T shows some pictures of her house and a picture of a traveller named Daniel and says: These pictures are about me and this traveller, Can you find the connection between us and elicit house exchange and boards it.

pre- reading (0-6 minutes) • To engage them with the ideas of renting houses or exchanging them and thinking about its pros and cons

T gives them some cards and and asks them to discuss the questions in it in pairs T draws a table of advantages and disadvantages on the board and asks volunteers in pairs to add a sentence to that. T preteaches the word " swap" by realia , that is, giving her marker to the last student and get her/his marker in return and doing it several times. CCQ; what am I doing? What does it mean?

while-reading (0-15 minutes) • to have reading for gist and specific information

T pastes the pictures of three people named Carl, Shannon( Carl's wife) and Sandra on the board and asks sts to read their stories given to them on the paper and answer : " Who has had more positive experiences?" ( reading for gist) ICQ; How much do u you have? What's the question that you should answer? T asks them to read it again and write the advantages and disadvantages mentioned in the story. ( reading for specific information).WC feedback is taken. CP1: T pastes the picture of Nicole , introduce her and divides students into pairs of Carls and Shannons and asks them to read the given advertisement by Nicole and write down 4 questions that they think they should ask from Nicole about her house. T models one question; If i were Carl I would ask whether she has any pets or not ICQ: How many questions should you write? T gather the papers and shuffle them and give them back again randomly and ask them to answer the questions in the form of a letter and student should find their own paper.

post-reading • to have writing and reading practices

optional: T asks them to write their their own adverts in pairs and paste it on the wall. ICQ: where should you paste your advert T asks students to walk around the class and choose the best advert. ICQ: What should you do?

pre-task of grammar ( test) (0-4 minutes) • to get familiar with the form of present continuous for future plans through a task before presentation by T

T asks students to read the email given to them and find the answers in the table individually. ICQ: can you do it with your friends? T asks them to have pair check and t gives the printed answers.

Study part ( Teaching of grammar) (0-10 minutes) • to demonstrate present continuous form for future plans and to practice this form

T asks this question: Q1: What am I doing? Q2: What are you doing? T elicit these answers: A1: You're teaching English now. A2: We're listening to the teacher now. T asks these questions: Q 3: When are Carl and Shannon leaving Paris? Q 4; What will they do after leaving Paris? T elicit these answers A3: They're leaving on the morning of June 6th. A4: They'll they take a few day trips from Paris. T asks about the difference between tenses and the meaning of them. CCQ1: What's the tense? CCQ3: Is there any plan here? Are they sure/ CCQ4: Is there any plan here? Are they sure? T asks sts to make sentences in present continuous form and will form which shows future. T asks sts to complete Nicole's email in pairs by using will and present continuous forms. ICQ: what tenses and verb forms can you use? T tells sts that they can find the corrected answers under their tables.

Activation (speaking) (0-5 minutes) • to increase the fluency of sts while using future tenses

Optional;T asks each of them the name of their favorite countries that they like to travel , put them in pairs. Sts should discuss and choose one of the two countries in pairs according to the questions in the cards given by T.
